Tomorrow's A-list Today

If talent, poise, and beauty a leading lady make, these four ingenues-of-the-moment are set for stardom (of course, twelve new movies between them doesn't hurt).
Zooey Deschanel - daughter of Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb (The Patriot) and actress Mary Jo (The Right Stuff) - established her own name in the industry with her shrewdly comic performance as a rebellious older sister in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. Now Deschanel, twenty, has five upcoming films, including The New Guy, in which she plays the guitarist in a high-school misfit funk band; The Good Girl, opposite Jennifer Aniston; and Traffic scribe Stephen Gaghan's directorial debut, Abandon. "If I can contribute one half of one percent to making a good movie, then I'm happy," she says of the roles she's chosen. "If I fail, or if I do something that doesn't turn out well, at least I know my intentions were good."
