Zooey Deschanel

Deschanel played Anita Miller, the young rock reporter hero's older sister in Almost Famous - a teenager who smokes and listens to the Devil's music (Simon and Garfunkel, actually) in defiance of her mother (Frances McDormand). When she jubilantly leaves home, the movie momentarily sags. She later turns up in the unexpected guise of a flight attendant and is briefly reconciled with her mom, but enough question marks hang over her character's head to inspire a whole other movie: The Adventures of Anita. Are you listening Cameron Crowe?
Born into the business (her father, Caleb, is a cinematographer/director; her mother, Mary Jo, an actress), Deschanel, 21, quit Northwestern University after seven months and returned to Hollywood to audition and, as she puts it, "speak my mind, whether people listen to me or not."
"I always want to bring something interesting and unique to a part, and it can be frustrating if they don't see it."
She can be seen next as a not-so-cool teen in The New Guy (opening May 11), followed by Manic and Big Trouble.
