'unreleased’ (previously unreleased demo material, 2001- 2005)
awf – will certainly reappear in some form. despite my reservations in the opening paragraph, i’m still fond of certain aspects of this track – i just never felt it could be adequately finished as ‘FortDax’.
et sweeres (truncation) – was due to be released as the b-side of a ‘senior prom in amethyst’ 7” single by a fledgling label that never quite got its act together in 2002. aspects of ‘sweeres’ eventually found their way into ‘folly’s ‘foxglove into sparrow-grass’. ‘senior prom’ itself was slightly augmented to become the same album’s ‘indigo’ version. the moral? don’t throw anything away...
f.m. (full version with coda) – this mix ‘clipped’ during its tail due to distortions i could never quite locate/eradicate. an unmastered full-length version of the final track from ‘divers’.
hexed if you hear this – dates from the 2004 ‘may demo’ which secured my deal with the very friendly label.
lemon promenade – fed both ‘a minute for upward mobility’ and ‘and where we hold on’.
n.g.s.s. – this was (under)developed for the 2004 john peel session (as was a version of wendy carlos’ title theme from ‘the shining’ which you are NOT privy to hear....xxx). it exists in various versions w/ different instrumentation and, as with ‘a.w.f.’, aspects will be reworked eventually. ‘the perils of midi demos’ : everything sounds very static (esp. the synths). is it begging a vocal too?...
on knot point – from the ‘may demo’ once again.
senior prom in amethyst – a-side of the never-come ‘et sweeres’ 7”.
termite, myrmecol – further ‘may demo’ material, kids. this track was part of an idea to construct a five-or-six-part set entitled ‘chouchou’s suite’ which i hoped to release as a midi-file + sheet music package for children to learn piano to. i was distracted. i do still like the notion though...
the 5th – is comparatively rather loud i’m afraid. it ends with the last notes of the last track of ‘folly’ as it was intended to be the first track of the album that followed...
u23 final mix 5 – this evocatively-titled short was commissioned as a demo for a building society commercial. hey, max richter’s submission didn’t cut the mustard either, or so i’m told...

like cream inside your spine – it took me years to realise that the title had been subconsciously lifted from either patti smith’s ‘horses’ or chris roberts’ appreciation of it. bizarrely (though gratifyingly), ‘like cream’ has been used in at least 3 wedding ceremonies that i know of.
