TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE, THE

Released: October 25, 2002

"The Truth About Charlie" is a remake of 1963 classic thriller "Charade" starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. A young woman (Thandie Newton) in Paris is about to divorce her husband when she discovers... he's dead; and all their money is gone. She meets a mysterious man (Mark Wahlberg), who tells her that the money was really his, and he wants it back, seemingly convinced that she's hiding the cash. Meanwhile, more people end up dead... From director Jonathan Demme, this is a fun movie to watch. After Demme hit pay dirt both financially and critically with "The Silence Of The Lambs" and "Philedelphia" in 1991 and 1993, he kept a rather low profile, only coming out with the big budget effort of "Beloved" with Oprah Winfrey in 1998 among other smaller releases. Now he's playing with a lighter story and the results are entertaining but not quite up to the memorable escapades of his Oscar winners or his earlier films like "Married To The Mob" or "Something Wild". Tim Robbins, Newton and Wahlberg are all good, as are the other cast and crew...
