FEMME FATALE

Released: November 6, 2002

Brian De Palma is back! His last decent movie was 1993's "Carlito's Way" with Al Pacino. What followed were the forgettable "Mission: Impossible", "Snake Eyes" and "Mission To Mars". But Brian is back, and by that I mean he is back to what he's best at. "Femme Fatale" is De Palma bringing us multi-camera screens as he slips clues to us. Then there's the tricks he plays on the audience to see if we're paying attention. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, model-turned-actress, stars as a woman trying to straighten out her life, even as her past as a con-woman comes back to haunt her. Things are not as they seem here, especially with De Palma at the helm. Antonio Banderas co-stars as the photographer whose pictures cause trouble and Peter Coyote is the American Ambassador in France who may or may not be linked to the character played by Romijn-Stamos. This is classic De Palma noir storytelling that most audiences aren't smart enough for, which explains Warner Bros. lame-assed marketing attempts on this film. Not only didn't the studio "get it", they didn't expect YOU would either. If you're up for some intelligent, erotic film noir that only De Palma can deliver, rent "Femme Fatale"...
