TRANSPORTER, THE

Released: October 11,2002

Written by French director Luc Besson ("La Femme Nikita") especially for actor Jason Statham ("Snatch"), "The Transporter" is a wild ride that fully entertained me for its running time. Statham plays a man whose job is to deliver packages without asking any questions. Complications arise when he breaks those rules, ie: looking inside the package in the trunk to find a pretty Asian girl played by Qi Shu. The action that follows is both exciting and fast paced. It's one of those mindless action films but this one delivers the goods and it's sure to please those jaded by the less than compelling recent efforts by Stallone. Car chases, massive explosions, guns shooting EVERY DIRECTION possible all help make this a ride you don't mind being transported on. Statham is great as the action star and I hope he does more movies that show off his action-ready style and personality this effectively. Given the other hairless action stars - Vin Diesel and Bruce Willis - Statham is likely to give them very viable competition in future action oriented roles. Directed by prolific Asian movie maker Corey Yuen.
