PROOF OF LIFE

Released: December 8, 2000

Alicia (played by the ever so cute Meg Ryan) hires a professional negotiator (Russell Crowe) to obtain the release of her engineer husband (David Morse), who has been kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in South America. This is an OK action movie with a mix of both tension and beautiful exotic scenery. Crowe delivers a superb performance as the mercenary with a heart while Ryan offers her usual cute self as the distressed wife of the kidnapped Morse. Teetering on the edge of a career, David Caruso is given a fun role as Crowe's partner and Pamela Reed acts a decent freaked out sister-in-law to Ryan. Directed by Taylor Hackford, whose past fare has been along the same quality ratings as this - "The Devil's Advocate", "Dolores Claiborne" and "La Bamba".
