MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II

Released: May 24, 2000

Tom Cruise wanted John Woo's version of a "Mission: Impossible" movie and what we get is a pleasant, if somewhat predictable sub-Bond epic where much of the Woo trademarks are confined to the rear of the film in an elaborate fight scene with Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his new bad guy former agent Sean Ambrose, played by "Ever After’s" Dougray Scott. Woo wanted a "warmer" movie compared to the 1996 first installment so we are given a love interest for Cruise and Scott to battle over, named Thandie Newton. Ving Rhames also reprises his role from the first movie and Anthony Hopkins makes an unbilled appearance as Cruise's IMF boss. Nice stunts and fights but not particularly great, but it was an OK time filler.
