GLOBAL HERESY

Released: June 28, 2002

Shot back in 2000 and only now receiving a belated release barely in theatres, "Global Heresy" (aka "Rock My World") is a lightweight drama/comedy starring Peter O'Toole and Joan Plowright. How these two very good actors ended up in this movie is sad stuff. Having said that, they are the only compelling reason to actually watch it. A rock band (Global Heresy) bursts onto the scene and then their frontman/bassist disappears on the eve of a European tour. To prep themselves with replacement bassist Nat (Alicia Silverstone), the band holes up at a quaint British mansion while the owners are away on vacation. Well, the hired hands charged with taking care of the band are a no show so the owners (O'Toole and Plowright) decide to play the hired hands themselves, without the band's knowledge. And wacky hilarity ensues. Silverstone's onscreen time barely amounts to ten minutes or so and a variety of subplots are introduced, including a renewed love between O'Toole and Plowright and an odd plot involving O'Tooles hatred of his daughter (or grand daughter, I can't care to find out), played by Amy Phillips. Directed by 69-year-old Canadian hack Sidney Furie, "Global Heresy" is of interest for those into O'Toole and Plowright's acting talent and maybe those interested in seeing the downward spiral of Silverstone's career.
