EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS

Released: July 17, 2002

As mentioned on the Warner Bros. site for "Eight Legged Freaks"...

"Eight Legged Freaks" NEEDS A HYPHEN!!

Eight Legged Freaks = Eight freaks who are legged.

Eight-Legged Freaks = Freaks who are eight-legged, hence spiders...

Hyphen lesson aside, (this is the same studio that altered the name of the "Harry Potter" movie for US audiences to be "The Sorcerer's Stone" from "The Philosopher's Stone" after all) this was a fine light comedy horror movie that takes it's cues from a variety of movies. Inspired by "Tromors", "Aliens" and "Dawn Of The Dead" much like "Resident Evil" was, this movie uses the source material in a way more creative way, resulting in a much more enjoyable movie. David Arquette stars with Kari Wuhrer in this giant Spider flick. The spiders are created by very humorous FX that doesn't take itself too seriously and that is why I ended up enjoying the movie as much as I did. The lovely Scarlett Johansson wears a towel after a shower and is chased by a huge spider yet the towel doesn't slip off. That's my only real complaint about "Eight Legged Freaks"... The other thing that seemed weird was promoting the movie as by the producers of "Godzilla" and "Independence Day"... You'd think they'd try something POSITIVE to market this otherwise fun flick.
