Banned in France! Banned in Australia! Barely able to pass the censors in Ontario! "Baise-Moi" (literal translation: Fuck Me, or Rape Me) is the story of Nadine and Manu, two aimless French girls who decide to start a killing spree across the country. The triggers that launch each girl on their rampage are similar to that of "Thelma And Louise" - Manu gets raped and Nadine sees her only friend being shot dead. What follows descends from "Thelma And Louise" territory right into a "Natural Born Killers" template. The two young women begin killing men at randon and occasionally after having sex with them. Men aren't the only casualties however - women too are not spared, especially rich women with fully loaded ATM cards. The violence is extremely graphic. The sex (the rape sequence in particular) is brutally graphic, bringing it beyond basic pornography. The movie ends back in "Thelma And Louise" territoty but not after Nadine and Manu have extracted their random vengeance across France. It's easy to see why this was banned in many places - it combines brutal violence with hardcore porn, often in the same scenes. Shot ultra low budget by director Virginie Despentes (based on her book), this is a hard-to-watch film that will offend many. It's not one I aim to view again anytime soon but regardless it will leave an impression me long after seeing it.
