SCHOOL OF ROCK

Released: October 3, 2003

While not a typical depiction of what could happen in a real classroom, this was a very entertaining film! I say not typical because the kids in this particular classroom had previously studied music at school and were generally interested in the subject. Not only that, the actor kids here are actually musicians. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a musician recently fired from his band (that he started). Late on rent, Dewey poses as his roommate, a substitute teacher, and gets a job teaching a 4th grade class. Hoping to win prize money offered by a local band contest, Dewey forms a rock band with the kids in the class. He must do this in secret so that the parents and school personnel know nothing of his plan. Black is perfect in "School Of Rock" and it's easy to see a film of this standard when someone like Black and a director a good as Richard Linklater are involved. Also starring Joan Cusack, Mike White and the always fun to watch on screen Sarah Silverman. This film opened at #1 and it's great to see Black's movie career assured as well as seeing Linklater get a #1 film, something I doubt anyone expected in his career. I challenge any reader out there into music not to be entertained by "School Of Rock"!
