To save his planet, an alien must find a woman on Earth to have his baby. Garry Shandling plays the alien, who, by the way, like all his people, are not equipped with genitals. The lucky Earth woman destined to Mother his spawn is Annette Benning (playing a real estate salesperson, just like she did in "American Beauty"). A cast of supporting actors like John Goodman, Nora Dunn, Greg Kinnear and Ben Kingsley round out this oddball comedy where the funniest "joke" is the artificial penis Shandling is surgically attached with that makes a loud buzzing sound whenever he gets aroused - yet no one (but the viewer) can hear it. Directed by Mike Nichols, whose previous fare like "The Birdcage" and "Silkwood" are far more memorable.
