UPTOWN GIRLS

Released: August 15, 2003

Molly Gunn (Brittany Murphy), the freewheeling daughter of a deceased rock legend, is forced to get a job when her manager steals her money. As nanny for wiser-than-her-years Ray (Dakota Fanning), the oft ignored daughter of a music executive (Heather Locklear) she learns what it means to be an adult while teaching Ray how to be a child. It's Murphy's first real top billed role and while it's an overall light film, there are some really genuine moments between her and rising star Fanning. Murphy reunites with her "Clueless" (1995) co-star Donald Faison and is joined by another soon-to-be famous actress Marley Shelton. For pure lightness and fun, "Uptown Girls" does pretty well.
