HEIST

Released: November 9, 2001

It's one of three different movies Gene Hackman is releasing in November and December of 2001 - including "Behind Enemy Lines" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" - both co-starring Owen Wilson. Of the three, it's likely this one is the least of the bunch. Sure, it's a David Mamet film and his "State And Main" was OK but this is sorta an action movie. Does it work? Well, it sure tries. While interesting when it shows Hackman and his team setting up the various stages of heists, it never really satisfied my action cravings and the chatty scenes were filled with a pile of cliches one would expect from a movie like this. Along with Hackman are Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo, Sam Rockwell and Mamet's wife Rebecca Pidgeon, who, while very good, seems to only act her husband's movies. Rent on a rainy/snowy/cold evening...
