S.W.A.T.

Released: August 8, 2003

The ever prolific Colin Farrell (ten movies since 2000 alone) and the equally prolific Samuel L. Jackson (about fifteen in the same period) join forces in the movie version of the 70s TV series of the same name. More accurately, it's a film that takes place in the present and features a cast of characters too young to have seen the TV show but are aware of it and even hum the TV theme song to each other at times... An imprisoned drug kingpin offers a huge cash reward to anyone that can break him out of police custody and only the LAPD's Special Weapons and Tactics team (aka S.W.A.T.) can prevent it. That's all you really need to know as plot is immaterial here. Just go and enjoy the explosions and flyin' bullets. The film also stars LL Cool J (who is going under his real name James Todd Smith these days it seems, ie: "I'm trying to be a real actor here"), the lovely but lethal Michelle Rodriguez ("Girlfight") and Olivier Martinez as the French bad guy. While it may be a mindless and forgettable summer movie, "S.W.A.T." is still a fun ride and worth watching for the interactions of Farrell and Jackson, two very dependable actors.
