BUBBA HO-TEP

Released: February 27, 2004

Now, THIS was entertaining! longtime horror director Don Coscarelli has delivered what is technically not a typical horror film. It combines bits of horror with film noir and Coen brothers dark humor. "Bubba Ho-Tep" is the story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death", then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy. This odd yet highly creative film was a real find in a movie world of tired formula and lame-assed concepts. Campbell and Davis are brilliant here, as per usual. This is a must-rent, a real original film made with obvious care and passion.
