BUTTERFLY EFFECT, THE

Released: January 23, 2004

A very stylish film from the guys who gave us (well, *sold* us) "Final Destination 2". A young man (Ashton Kutcher) travels through time to change a disturbing past, but finds that the changes alter his future in unpredictable ways. The content is pretty dark, like a "Stand By Me" on crack. Just when you think it can't get any worse, Kutcher reads another passage from his childhood journals and is transported to some other point in space and time. The film goes on a bit too long for my attention span but it was entertaining and nicely edited with very cool transitions from scene to scene. It shows clearly that Kutcher CAN act in a serious drama and that his movie career is ensured once "That 70s Show" ends its run. Definitely not for younger viewers, "The Butterfly Effect" is a good example of the quality a movie like Heath Ledger's "The Order" should have aspired to.
