HERO (AKA YING XIONG)

Released: August 27, 2004

Told in a series of dream-like flashbacks, Jet Li plays a man who defeats three assassins who sought to murder the most powerful warlord in pre-unified China. In the tradition of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Hero" continues to delight the audience who are given grand scenes of epic landscapes and amazing fight scenes. It may be stylized but it's beautifully stylized and very fun to watch from a photography point of view alone. Jet Li is particularly good in the lead. The film almost didn't get a US release until Miramax persuaded Quentin Tarantino to have the film promoted as "presented by Quentin Tarantino"...
