3000 MILES TO GRACELAND

Released: February 23, 2001

Kurt Russell already has Elvis down because he played The King in a TV movie on the man himself years ago. Costner, well... He just looks bad-ass with those sideburns. The rest of the cast - made up of Christian Slater, Courtney Cox, Howie Long, Jon Lovitz, Ice-T, Bokeem Woodbine, Kevin Pollak and David Arquette - exist simply to either die in bloody gunfights or participate in them in some fashion until the next explosion happens. This is not a bad thing! Contrary to the bloodbath review given by Roger Ebert, this is actually a fun rollercoaster ride through a series of excelent car chases, explosions and bullets. You must put all logic on hold of course but in the spirit of true escapism, this rules. This is an R rated movie and is adult because of the wall-to-wall death. No one in this movie has any redeemable qualities, not even the Son of Courtney Cox, who plays a lying, stealing and otherwise morally corrupt boy. He fits in well with the rest of the cast though. For action without anything of substance, you could do worse - like "Gone In 60 Seconds" kind of worse...
