Mel Gibson stars in this Roland Emmerich movie about the war of 1776. Perhaps one of the best movies about the subject, Emmerich redeems himself after the blech-ness of "Independence Day" and "Godzilla". Heath Ledger (the guy who gets Julia Stiles in "10 Things I Hate About You") shines in the role of Gibson's eldest son. Brutally gorey, this is otherwise a fine movie both for historical accuracy and it's narrative structure.
