O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?

Released: December 22, 2000

Another film from the Coen brothers that flys off the Hollywood mainstream trajectory and results in a total joy of a movie to watch. In what amounts to a Coen interpretation, or homage to, Preston Sturges' "Sullivan's Travels", this is both entertaining and memorable. George Clooney stars along with various veterans of Coen movies including Holly Hunter, John Turturro and John Goodman. Tim Blake Nelson provides a great performance as one of two cell mates Clooney must break out of jail circa 1920 in order to find some mythical treasure awaiting them. There is some fantastic music in the soundtrack and the screenwriting is as sharp as ever for a Coen brothers movie.
