BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF

In 1765 something was stalking the mountains of south-western France. A "beast" that pounced on humans and animals with terrible ferocity. Indeed they beast became so notorious that the King of France dispatched envoys to find out what was happening and to kill the creature. By the end, the Beast of Gevaudan had killed over 100 people, to this day, no one is entirely sure what it was, Wolf? Hyena? ...or something supernatural? This movie has the LOOK of Hollywood but it and movies like "Amelie" are from France. And they are of higher quality than much of what comes out of the Hollywood system. Not only is this a beautiful looking movie, it is gripping and demanding of your attention. The violence is brutal yet not flashy to the point of being just another action movie. The actors are all French and present the story with flair, not unlike a Hollywood werewolf movie might be but with a calibre of writing and production Hollywood rarely seems to muster. Worth renting for the cinematography alone, but not for younger viewers due to the brutal violence and nudity. From French director Christophe Gans, whom I'm sure we'll be seeing more of...
