RAY

Released: October 29, 2004

The movie theatre I saw this movie in decided to stop the film at the 2 hour mark to allow the janitorial staff to clean the auditorium. Theatre management refused to re-start the film. A free pass was offered but I was left bitter and unsatisfied at not being able to see the end of this very entertaining bio pic on the early life of musician Ray Charles. Jamie Foxx IS Ray Charles, he really compelled me to believe he was the great singer/songwriter. Director Taylor Hackford skillfully concentrates on bring a slice of Charles' life to the screen. Taking a page from the "Ali" bio pic, Hackford chose to concentrate on the childhood and early successes of Charles rather than try to cover his entire life. I will be going to a different theatre to watch the final 30 minutes but so far I'm liking what I see and hear.
