MOONLIGHT MILE

Released: October 4, 2002

Jake Gyllenhaal,Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon and newcomer Aleksia Landeau star in this family-centric drama about a young man (Gyllenhaal) who lingers in the family home of his fiancee, after her accidental death. While grieving along with her parents (Hoffman and Sarandon) and drawn into legal issues presented by a district attorney seeking justice for the family, he finds himself falling in love with another woman (Landeau), against his own best intentions. While it does flow at a rather leisurely pace, "Moonlight Mile" showcases the actors within an interesting plot. It's almost as if Gyllenhaal's character can't bear to leave the parents of his murdered fiancee but is it do to overwheming emotions or lack of anything else to do back home? Both Sarandon and Hoffman give excellent performances, as do Gyllenhaal, Landeau and Holly Hunter in a small part as a lawyer.
