BRING IT ON

Released: August 25, 2000

Unexpected #1 hit from Universal in its opening week gives added exposure to this otherwise TV movie-of-the-week themed cheerleader competition saga starring Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku (she was Arnold's daughter in "True Lies"). Nicely shot scenes of cheerleading competition showing athletic prowess of the doubles plays like something you'd find on ESPN 2 at any given time of day. This is an R rated script shot as a PG-13 movie which is rather disturbing. What could have been a more thoughtful movie was trimmed and cut from its original more adult content to a more broad youth appeal. It's way too raunchy to be PG-13 however. Just sample this lyric from one of the cheers:

I jump! You can look but don't you hump. I'm major. I roar. I swear I'm not a whore. We cheer as we lead. We act like we're on speed. Hate us 'cause we're beautiful -- but we don't like you either. We're cheerleaders! We are cheerleaders!
