PIECES OF APRIL

Released: October 17, 2003

April Burns (Katie Holmes) invites her family to Thanksgiving dinner at her tiny apartment on New York's Lower East Side. But - she has no idea how to cook or prepare any sort of homemade dinner. So she calls upon her fellow apartment dwellers to help with ovens and cooking assistance. She's even a worse cook than myself! Her family is completely bonkers in all sorts of ways. Patricia Clarkson (the pot smoking cancer victim), Oliver Platt (the father) star, along with TV's "Will And Grace" star Sean Hayes and Alison Pill help make this story interesting. The film rather abruptly ends 80 minutes in as it looks like the director Peter Hedges simply ran out of money. Shot on digital, the film is worth seeing for the always fine Katie Holmes and Patricia Clarkson, who was nominated for the 2003 Best Supporting Oscar. Worth watching if you enjoy disfunctional family films...
