AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER

Released: July 26, 2002

Much like "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back" was Kevin Smith's major studio big budget in-joke treat for his fans, so is "Austin Powers In Goldmember" a treat for Mike Myers fans. Using the first two "Austin Powers" movies as a template, this third installment pretty much rehashes everything you've seen before... Yet it's still entertaining. Myers plays not only Austin but also THREE other characters - Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard and Goldmember. He literally earns his multi-million dollar pay check by occupying almost 99% of the movie. Myers and director Jay Roach of all three "Powers" movies have created easily the least in the series but it still manages to hit a few home runs during its run time. I liked the making-a-movie-within-a-movie routine of a studio making a movie about Austin Powers featuring cameos from Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey, Danny DeVito - plus other blink-and-you-miss-them cameos from Susanna Hoffs (ex of The Bangles), Nathan Lane, The Osbournes, Fred Savage, Britney Spears, John Travolta, Steven Spielberg, Matthew Sweet, former MuchMusic VJ Christopher Ward among others. Co-produced yet again by Demi Moore, with new cast additions of Destiny's Child Beyoncé Knowles and Michael Caine as Austin's Father, "Austin Powers In Goldmember" is both funny and unessential. Rent it along with the other two films in the series for the greatest impact...
