IN THE BEDROOM

Released: December 25, 2001

A New England couple's (Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson) college-aged son (Nick Stahl) dates an older woman (Marisa Tomei) with two small children and an unwelcome ex-husband (William Mapother). Based on the Andre Dubus story "Killings", this story explores - in a very methodical and detailed manner - a situation Charles Bronson has dealt with in a mass revenge sort of way in his "Deathwish" movies. Without going into too much of the plot, I can reveal that "In The Bedroom" is the Oscar contender version (ie: respectable in the critic's eyes) of what any of the "Deathwish" movies has covered in its many sequels. How "In The Bedroom" sits with you depends on your feelings with the adequacy of our present justice system.
