GET OVER IT

Released: March 9, 2001

This movie opened the same weekend (March 9th) as "15 Minutes" but since all the reviews and comments from friends were negative I decided to check out "Get Over It" starring Kirsten Dunst instead. Dunst stars as Kelly, little sister of Felix (played by Colin Hanks, Tom's 24 year old son). When Felix's best buddy Berke (Ben Foster) is dumped by his longtime girlfriend Allison (Melissa Sagemiller) he slowly begins to notice Kelly has grown up into quite an attractive young woman. For movies of this ilk there is no great depth but thankfully "Get Over It" avoids the pitfalls of many of this genre by not taking itself too seriously. In between the inevitable romance and modernistic school Shakespeare play rendition (with Martin Short as the theatre director) there are some genuinely funny scenes, many from Berke's romance advice TV show parents played by Ed Begley, Jr and Swoosie Kurtz. Who names anyone "Swoosie" anyways?? Swoosie is how I feel after about three beers. Musical enhancement from Sisqo and Vitamin C (Colleen Fitzpatrick, formerly of alt rockers Eve's Plum and the woman behind Vitamin C's "Graduation (Friends Forever)" hit from last year) help make this a movie as appealing to listen to as it is to watch. Support from "That 70s Show" tennybopper Mila Kunis and Shane west keep the main cast... Ummm, ya... Supported. Trivial fact: Dunst is now dating her romantic co-star Ben Foster.
