FAMILY MAN, THE Released: December 22, 2000 Easily one of the least of Nicolas Cage's recent output (though I haven't seen "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" yet). Director Brett "Rush Hour" and "Rush Hour 2" Ratner was possibly trying to do an updated "It's A Wonderful Life" but rather than the magic of that classic film, I was never drawn into the characters or the situations. Support from Tea Leoni, Saul Rubinek, Jeremy Piven, and Don Cheadle (excellent in "Boogie Bights") are all damn good but I was more drawn into checking my watch during this overlong sentimental piece of chick flick. I sincerely hope Cage gets a good movie one of these days. Or a new agent. Lets all hope John Woo's "Windtalkers" saves the day... 127 Minutes Universal |
