PASSION OF THE CHRIST, THE

Released: February 25, 2004

Almost like as if Mel Gibson had leftover bloodletting sequences from "Braveheart" and wanted to purge himself of the demons from "What Women Want", I was hit with a cinematic bloodbath of torture and suffering. James Caviezel stars as the Christ. He gives a fine performance as the tortured Jesus. Some will say this film is anti-Jew or too violent. Forget that. It's simply "Lethal Weapon 5: Riggs Is God". Beautiful to look at, this film easily makes torture look quite stunningly artistic, thanks to ace cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. Not nearly as controversial or gripping as a real life story of suffering, the fictional story of Jesus and his last few hours as a man are still compelling enough for this movie watcher.
