GODSEND

Released: April 30, 3004

A couple agree to have their deceased son cloned, under the supervision of an enigmatic doctor but bizarre things start to happen years after his rebirth. Greg Kinnear and the former model and former Mrs. John Stamos Rebecca Romijn-Stamos are the couple. The doctor, played with a toned down delivery by Robert De Niro, is a god-like persona, kinda scary but perhaps not too far off from reality considering all the stem cell research going on these days. This sort of story might make a good pairing with "A.I.". The story starts off convincingly enough but falls into unbelievability once we get to scenes where De Niro ushers the couple into a witness protection-like program in a town he owns so he can control the "experiment". Not nearly as good as the trailer might suggest, the film does have a good cast and director Nick Hamm ("The Hole") is establishing himself as a fine visual artist, even if the film itself is utterly forgettable once you leave the theatre or hit eject on the DVD player.
