DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR

Released: September 5, 2003

This is nucking futs! A thirty-something former child star (David Spade) hires a foster family to re-create the childhood he never had. While "Joe Dirt" was a funny enough Spade vehicle, "Dickie Roberts" never gets beyond a certain mean spirited atmosphere and the laughs that do come are too forced to hit the bullseye. A good cast though... Jon Lovitz, Alyssa Milano, Mary McCormack, Brendan Fraser, Alyssa Milano and Rob Reiner all appear here. Also appearing throughout and in the end credit "We Are The World" styled music video (the funniest part of the movie) are a batch of former child stars (or co stars of) including Willie Aames, Tom Arnold, Danny Bonaduce, Todd Bridges, Gary Coleman, Jeff Conaway, Corey Feldman, Leif Garrett, Corey Haim, Florence Henderson, Emmanuel Lewis, Maureen McCormick, Erin Moran, Adam Rich, Charlene Tilton, Dick Van Patten and Barry Williams. Foisted upon us by Spade's buddy (and producer boss) Adam Sandler, this may be a decent rental if only for that end credit bit... About what you'd expect from the guy (Sam Weisman) who directed "What's the Worst That Could Happen?"...
