CABIN FEVER

Released: September 12, 2003

Hot on the heels of 2003's spring horror flick "Wrong Turn" comes "Cabin Fever". Following the tradition of these type of horror movies, a bunch of attractive young people willingly go camping in the woods and stick around way too long when things start to fall apart. Unlike "Wrong Turn" or most horror films of this sub-genre, the teens are attacked by a quickly mutating flesh eating virus rather than a killer in-breeder. The gore is especially gorey in "Cabin Fever" and that's a welcome sign in this toned down cinema atmosphere we live in now. This flick recalls the creative energy of the early Peter Jackson gore-fests like "Bad Taste". This is pretty raw stuff though, storywise. The story is not really developed enough to have a point to it. The average intelligence of the characters drops every minute of running time and the stock "country hick" characters at the country grocery store are just to cartoony to be taken seriously. But overall, the cast of unknowns serve the film welll and - if you put your brain on freeze - this is a fun ride, albeit a very forgettable one.
