RULES OF ATTRACTION, THE

Released: October 11, 2002

Born in Flin Flon, Roger Avery rose above obscurity by writing most of director Quentin Tarantino's films like "Pulp Fiction". Now a director ("Killing Zoe" 1994), Avery's latest is a yarn of a bunch of spolied college brats who are mainly interested in sex and drugs. It's based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel and he's known for writing stories about people you'd probably not like in real life. Watching this can be hard at times but the creative bursts like a character's sped up trip tych through Europe are worth the dumb bits. Great acting from all involved including James Van Der Beek as he tries to shed his good guy "Dawson's Creek" persona. Also a stellar soundtrack as well.
