MR. DEEDS

Released: June 28, 2002

"Mr. Deeds", not only based on the essense of the Frank Capra directed Gary Cooper vehicle from 1936 ("Mr. Deeds Goes To Town"), is a generic amalgamation of various components from star Adam Sandler's previous and better movies like "Happy Gilmore", "Billy Madison" and "The Wedding Singer". The plot is standard fluff - Deeds (Sandler) plays a dorky but good-hearted pizza shop owner who inherits $40 billion. Rather than be corrupted and/or taken advantage of, Deeds finds time to fall in love with a fresh from jail Winona Ryder. Blah, blah, blah... Why did I even bother paying money for this? There were a FEW funny bits but still... As a followup to the financially unsuccessful bomb "Little Nicky", it's barely memorable - Sandler on auto pilot.
