CONFIDENCE

Released: April 25, 2003

From director James Foley... I've always admired his career choices, even when some of his films have been clear attempts to pay off a mortgage. Early movies from Foley include "Reckless" (1984) and "At Close Range" (1986) with his best films "Glengarry Glen Ross" 1992 and "Two Bits" (1995) from the mid 90s. He did a couple clear commercial choices like "The Chamber" (1996) and "Fear" (1996) followed by "The Corrupter" in 1999. Now, he returns with a heist movie featuring some of our current crop of good actors like Edward Burns, Rachel Weisz, Paul Giamatti plus some established players like Andy Garcia, Robert Forster and Distin Hoffman. Like "Heist", "Ocean's Eleven" and "The Good Thief", "Confidence" is a good heist film that keeps you guessing til the end. Jake Vig (Burns) is a consummate grifter about to pull his biggest con yet, one set to avenge his friend's murder. But his last scam backfired, leaving him indebted to a mob boss (Hoffman). Under any typical hack director this might have flopped on its face but Foley keeps it together and ensures you are entertained from start to finish.
