BLACK AND WHITE

Released: April 5, 2000

Not so much a movie as a compilation of various improvised scenes. A group of white high school teens become involved with Harlem's black hip-hop crowd to the point they literally become Harlem's black hip-hop crowd. Director James Toback gives us a look at race from the points of view of blacks, whites, kids and adults. While it may not have the sense of narrative I was hoping for, some of the scenes are worth seeing this movie for - including pretty much any scene involving Robert Downey, Jr. and the largely improvised Mike Tyson cameos. "Black And White" stars Scott Caan, Robert Downey Jr., Stacy Edwards, Gaby Hoffmann, Allan Houston (of the New York Knicks), Jared Leto, Marla Maples, Method Man, Joe Pantoliano, Bijou Phillips, Claudia Schiffer, William Lee Scott, Brooke Shields, Ben Stiller, Eddie Kaye Thomas and Elijah Wood, as well as Power and Raekwon of the popular hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.
