WEIGHT OF WATER, THE

Released: November 1, 2002

I usually like movies by Kathryn Bigelow ("Point Break", "Near Dark", "K-19: The Widowmaker") but this story of a newspaper photographer researching the lurid and sensational axe murder of two women in 1873 is too slow and too weighted down by its own dual historical and modern day plots. Not even such acting talent from Sean Penn, Sarah Polley and Catherine McCormack can save this from the yawns. Worthwhile only if you enjoy lingering shots of naked Elizabeth Hurley. It's enjoyable, but does not make for a good overall movie.
