ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Released: March 19, 2004

Any movie that has three-time Oscar nominated Kate Winslet lift up her dress and utter the line "here is my crotch, just as you remember it" is fine by me! From the warped mind of writer Charlie Kaufman ("Adaptation", "Being John Malkovich") comes yet another oddball of a movie that both challenges and entertains. Definitely NOT for idiots and morons, intelligent movie lovers will appreciate this inventive and daring film. A couple played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet attempt to rescue their failing relationship by having their bad memories erased. Framed in a style like "Memento" and "21 Grams", the movie is told in and out of order, becoming hard to keep track of what's happening, but once you "get" the intention, it's nothing short of the most original movie in a while, possibly since Kaufman's own "Adaptation". Directed by Michel Gondry, the lower budget feature is shot mainly with handheld camera and evokes the excitement missing in most studio fare spewing out of Hollywood these days. Fine support from Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Jane Adams, Kirsten Dunst and Tom Wilkinson...
