RESIDENT EVIL

Released: March 15, 2002

From English director Paul W.S. Anderson (no cinematic relation to the similarly named "Magnolia" director) comes another big budget movie based on a video game. As he demonstrated with "Mortal Combat" in 1995, you CAN make a semi-decent movie based on a video game. With "Resident Evil", however, Anderson plucks his stars - Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez (from "Girlfight") - in a seemingly endless series of situations stolen from other, better movies. Flicks ripped off include "The Matrix", the George Romero "Dead" series, "Aliens" and any number of other better sci-fi/horror films. The scenery is great and the sets are creative but the greater whole does not reveal a very worthwhile movie viewing experience...
