ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO

Released: September 12, 2003

Whether you call it "El Mariachi 3" or "Desperado II", Robert Rodriguez has put together another entertaining action flick. Just two months after writing, producing editing, scoring, producing and directing the third film in the "Spy Kids" trilogy, Rodriguez is back with another cost-effective movie that gives us the thrills and gunfights we want from an "El Mariachi" movie. Antonio Banderas returns with beautiful Salma Hayek and are joined this time around with Johnny Depp, who adds considerable bursts of energy in interesting scenes with a character who is absolutely "out of sight". Mickey Rourke also stars along with Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Rubén Blades and Willem Dafoe. The plot is entirely in the backseat here so it's the action set pieces that Rodriguez puts together that are the main event. There's simply so much energy bursting forth at the audience that it's hard to absorb it all in one viewing! It's shot with digital cameras and looks great, as good as traditional film. You need not have seen the other "El Mariachi" films to enjoy "One Upon A Time In Mexico".
