NORTHFORK

Released: July 11, 2003

Consider this: "Northfork" had virtually no budget (way under 2 million dollars) yet attracted such fine actors as James Woods, Nick Nolte, Claire Forlani, Daryl Hannah, Peter Coyote, Anthony Edwards and Kyle MacLachlan. How did the Polish brothers (Michael, who directed it - Mark, who produced it - and both of whom who wrote it) get such a stellar cast to work essentially for free in freezing cold winter Montana? Well, when you have a story as masterful as "Northfork" then actors who care about the art will come forward on their own. And come forth they did, giving marvelous performances in a beautifully shot story about the residents of a small 1955 Montana community forced to move their homes to make way for a new dam which will flood their land. A movie like this, so good and artful, will likely never catch the masses but why not skip the latest big budget Hollywood action flick and take a chance on true cinematic art. "Northfolk" is easily one of 2003's best movies.
