GUY THING, A

Released: January 17, 2003

This is the kind of movie actor Jason Lee does when he isn't working for Kevin Smith, Lawrence Kasdan or Cameron Crowe. While it may not be up to the heights of "Dogma", "Mumford" or "Almost Famous", there's still a few genuine laughs to be found here. In addition to Lee, this romantic pre-wedding story stars one of my favorite actresses Julia Stiles, who first came to my attention in "10 Things I Hate About You". Also starring are Selma Blair, James Brolin, Julie Hagerty and Stiles' "10 Thing" co-star Larry Miller as the Minister who is about to marry the Lee and Blair characters. Wackyness ensues, much of it predictable and far fetched, but it IS fun and the Vancouver doubling as Seattle was fun to watch too. Watch out for the scene at Zulu Records, one of Vancouver's coolest music stores. I haven't seen the Ashton Kutcher/Brittany Murphy post-married flick "Just Married" and I don't want to. I decided to see "A Guy Thing" instead because at least the trailers didn't make me vomit like "Just Married" did.
