If Michael Moore's "Bowling For Columbine" was the after effects of the real life Colorado school shoot-em-up then Gus Van Sant's "Elephant" is the subtle prequel. The film follows a minimalistic approach to the day leading up to the shootings. As experimented with in Van Sant's last film "Gerry", the minimalist style is used to an almost chilling realistic documentary feel. Van Sant is clearly one of the best commercial directors out there, period.
