Michael Douglas plays a thrice-wed college professor who gets Frances McDormand, the chancellor, pregnant. The movie is based on the novel by Michael Chabon, a University of Pittsburgh graduate. Tobey Maguire, fresh from his breakthrough role in "The Cider House Rules", is student Douglas champions and befriends. Not bad at all and very different from "L.A. Confidential" director Curtis Hanson and it's nice to see Douglas play a different character than his typical schtick. Katie Holmes also stars as a student who boards with Douglas though the romantic potentials are not exploited and quite frankly this is good because he's already 25 years older than real life wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
