A bank manager (Philip Seymour Hoffman) with (a) a gambling problem and (b) access to a multi-million dollar account gets into a messy situation. Based on the story of the largest one-man bank fraud in Canadian history. Hoffman plays a gambler not content to simply win alomst $9 million but is compelled to continue playing until he loses it all. If ever there was a good poster boy for NOT gambling, Hoffman is it in "Owning Mahowny", based on a real Toronto bank employee in the 80s. An almost unrecognizable Minnie Driver plays Hoffman's love interest and the cast is impressively supported by Maury Chaykin and John Hurt.
