NOWHERE IN AFRICA

Released: March 28, 2003 (US)

A Jewish family in 1938 Germany emigrate shortly before the Second World War. They move to Kenya to start running a farm while the attrocities carry out during the war. Caroline Link directed this German Best Foreign Picture Oscar winner for 2002 and her movie shows one family's escape from war that takes them on a brave journey. The escaping husband, wife and daughter all react quite differently to living in a new country with totally different lifestyles and culture. At first the wife hates it and the husband loves it. The daughter is young enough to adapt and like her new home. The movie takes a look at the family over many years and shows their changing attitudes to their new homeland. It's a very emotional story and worth renting. With subtitles.
