CHASING SLEEP

Released: September 8, 2000

...and chasing sleep is likely what you'll be doing some time into this slow moving yarn starring Jeff Daniels. A college English professor, Ed Saxon (Daniels) whose wife has recently disappeared is now struggling with insomnia. As he waits for her, he's visited by a series of people: a police officer (Gil Bellows), a young student (Emily Bergl) who has taken a liking to him, a grief conselor, and his wife's lover, George, who thinks Saxon killed her. Despite some great cinematography and the director's fixation on fluids of all types and clogged up toilets or sinks, "Chasing Sleep" deserved its direct-to-video dumping in October 2001 after a brief appearance in real theatres for the Toronto Film Festival among a couple other festivals. Jeff Daniels is a very good actor but he deserves better than this. And so do you, dear reader and film fan.
